We probably don’t need to tell you that there is a crisis of equine emergency veterinary care today. Because of the shortage of equine veterinarians, many clinics either don’t have the personnel to provide
emergency services at all, or can only do so for their own clients in good standing.
To address this ongoing crisis, and to better ensure the health and safety of all equines in our service area, Mobile Veterinary Services has changed our policy to provide emergency veterinary care to new clients as well as current clients. Emergency care is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
In order to cover our service area efficiently, meet the greatest needs, and cover the costs involved in having our doctors there for your horse when you need it, we have several policies that are non-negotiable.
EMERGENCY CALL POLICIES – PLEASE READ
- Payment is due in full at the time of service for ALL emergency calls. No exceptions.
- Any new client, or non-active client will be required to pay a $400 deposit via credit card by phone before our doctors leave the office.
- All calls will be triaged and handled accordingly. If more than one emergency call comes in at the same time, we will take the more critical case first, as is the standard of care in human and animal emergency medicine.
- Please have transport ready, either your own trailer or someone else who is willing to help, in case our doctors are unavailable in a reasonable time frame, or if your equine needs to be referred to a hospital.
How to Contact Us
If your horse is in need of emergency care, please contact our offices as soon as possible at (303) 279-4893 and follow the prompts on the voice service to leave a voicemail for the on-call doctor. Please use the “URGENT” option for a prompt return call. It is helpful for the doctor if you are ready to describe the horses’ condition, including heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, level of discomfort, and any injury that may be present.
